Tragedy

Yesterday was a tragic day. A day of mourning. Something that I was dreading and fearing for a long time, hoping, pleading, praying wouldn't come to pass, did. I really don't think I have felt this devastated in a long time.

It all started when I was putting Morgan down for a nap yesterday morning up in my bedroom. As I came out of my room and started heading down the stairs, I see it. I start screaming, a loud panicky, "NO! NO! NO!" Over and over. I keep going down the stairs, pleading that it wasn't true, that the damage was not as bad as it looked, that somehow I could have been mistaken. But I wasn't. As soon as I saw Claire, I saw the devastation, the carnage, the irreversible damage. I collapsed and started sobbing, those great heaving, trumpet-of-the-swan sobs I have told you about. I was heartbroken.

She had done it. She had found a pair of scissors and cut off her beautiful hair! Oh, say it isn't so!! But it is. If you have never seen Claire before, let me just tell you how beautiful her long curly hair was. We had never given it more than a trim since she was born. 3 1/2 years of hard work down the drain. She now has a short, short bob, and wicked bangs. And I am not okay with it. I hate it!!! And if you think I am throwing a tantrum about it, you are darn right. It doesn't look like my little Claire. I think she looks a mix between Haley Miles, the 1970's Charlie from the Chocolate Factory, and my cousin Ashley when she was 10. The bottom line is, I just want her hair back!

But there is nothing I can do. The mourning continues.

I know you hate it, but I think it looks very cute on her. It makes her look so much older.

I'm sorry that she cut her hair though. It is a sad thing. Her hair was beautiful. Why is it that when kids cut their hair, they can't just snip off a tiny little piece at the bottom? Why do they have to go for the bangs and the middle of the hair, thus leaving it in total ruin? It's a mystery.

Oh, Brooke, I know exactly how you feel. Alyssa's hair is still recovering from her self-given hair cut from last summer. I know how it feels to look at your daughter and think that it just doesn't look like her, and I understand when you say you hate it.

But Claire is beautiful! It might not be your favorite hair style, but she still looks absolutely adorable.

Her hair looks so much darker. It really is cute, but that long hair was beautiful. I send my condolences.

I can see why that would be rough, but she looks so freaking cute! granted i have always had short hair and i am currently growing it long so maybe i am biased? just hide the scissors so she doesn't find them again.

I know you are so sad, and you hate it. But I REALLY think it is so cute! Just keep imagining how much better it will look when it grows out again and is thicker and prettier! Keep your chin up.

Add one more to "I think the haircut looks cute." She is adorable, no matter what. I can see your frustration, though. That would be hard to see all that hair cut off by a non-professional! :)

Bummer! But you know, she does look cute, and hair always grows back.

Sad, although it was bound to happen sooner or later. I think it's a right of passage for every little girl to cut their own hair. Or to have a sibling do it for them!, as was my case, once by my older sister and once in a sneak attack from my younger brother. I returned the favor by cutting my little sister's hair for her. So, my point is, Morgan doesn't stand a chance! Either she's going to lop her hair off or Claire will do it for her one day! I'm sure you feel very comforted now, aren't I a great friend!

thanks for the comforting words, Melanie.

Well, when you told me about the hair cut, I imagined something totally horrible. But, I agree with everyone else, it's totally adorable. And it looks so dark. But, she does look different. It will take awhile to get used to, I'm sure. So sorry!

I am with everyone else...she is adorable. The haircut is cute. You don't have to leave it like that forever. You did come away from that lucky though. Other than the little bangs (that can be hidden) you would never have known what she did. I thought you took pictures of the cut.

I know you don't think it is cute, but it brings back such memories! I cut my sisters hair when I was little, so short even that she asked my mom if she was a boy. I've also been guilty of cutting my bangs too short. My sister's little 4 year old has cut her own hair THREE times already! You think she would learn, but alas, no. I think it is a perfectly normal thing for any little girl to do and you should be proud! (ok, maybe not but at least know that you have a beautiful and normal little girl.)

Brooke Mom says she wants to see more pictures of the baby.

Look at the bright side, not only is it cute, but she now has less hair that you have to comb out and style.

Don't hate me for saying this, but I actually like it better short. I think it is super cute. Two questions:

1. Did you cut the rest of her hair yourself?

2. What does she twirl her fingers around now when she takes her nap?

Yes, I want to see pics of the before. :) And I do have to say, AGAIN. . . the hair cute is cute. You styled it way cute and Claire can pull it off. She is adorable with long hair or not. Now she has a sassy style. And I am sure there are days that it is fitting. :) Noah's hair is very fitting for him. :)

I'm so sorry, Brooklyn. I think her long, curly hair was gorgeous, too. But it will grow back. Probably faster than you'll expect it to. And her hair really is cute short. She has a haircut similar to mine now. Did you cut it yourself? Hope your tantrum made you feel better. It always helps to vent! :)

Oh and I do think Claire looks really cute - very Twiggy-esque.

Thanks for the kind words. I am getting over throwing my fit, and starting to get use to it. I don't love, but I am starting to accept it.

I do have a picture of Claire's haircut- when it was still have long half short, but it isn't very clear, so I didn't post it.

I took Claire to a professional to fix it because I had no idea how I was going to fix it. It ended up costing me nearly 30 bucks (which is more than I have ever paid for any of my hair cuts) because I had to go back twice- the first professional haircut was not good.

I too think she looks adorable. I know it's not what you wanted but luckily she's gorgeous and can pull just about anything off. Except maybe a buzz cut. Maybe you should hide the clippers...

I'm so sorry that you had to go throught that. The haircut really is cute. I'm always of the opinion that hair is hair. It'll grow back, don't you worry! She does look a lot older now. She's adorable with or without her curly locks.

Oh No! I'm so sorry. However, her new cut is absolutely ADORABLE! She's such a beauty.
