Date Night

Last night, Cody and I had the rare opportunity to go out on a date night. I didn't realize how long it had been until we were walking into the restaurant sans children (well, except Luke, but he is so easy going, it was like we were sans children) and I felt giddy at the idea of eating out and not having to fight with anyone to stop standing on the chair or to stop drinking out of my cup. Once we were done with dinner, well, we didn't really know what to do with ourselves. Originally we had planned on going kayaking, but it was cold, rainy, and very windy, so that ix-nay-ed that. There were no movies in the theater that we had any desire to see, the go-cart place we considered going to had closed down, and we didn't feel like wandering the mall (because we are not 17). So what were we to do? We were baffled. We couldn't think of a single thing to do. We had been jonesin' for a date night for so long and here we were, unable to think of a single thing that we could do on a rainy night.

So we went to Michael's, the craft store.

Real romantic, I know (but secretly, I was excited to be there). We bummed around there for a while, picking up a couple of crafts to do with the kids and when we went out to the car, it was only 7:2o pm. Now what?

We ended up deciding to sit in the parking lot in our car, watch the rain fall down on the windows and just talk. It was actually really nice, the kind of thing we use to do way back when we were just dating. Of course, back then we didn't have a baby asleep in the back seat. But that just kinda made it all the better.

And this afternoon, the gir ls and I made the bunny house that was the fruit of our date last night. I say that, even if you think our date night was lamo, it turned out pretty good for all of us.

I would love a date night in Micheal's but Cory would wait in the car until I was done. And not to make anyone jealous but Jonece turns 12 in one year and then we can leave the girls and go out all the time!

Sounds like our dates nights... it's 7pm and we're like "what next?". glad you had a chance to get out!

Ha! That sounds like the date Mike and I went on at Christmas time. My cousins were watching the kids, we went out, and then thought "Now what?" Then we went to Costco!

That's what happens when you get older. A date to Costco is the highlight of the month. It is just a little hard on the check book (or debit card for the younger set.)

Love it. That little house is so cute. There is no way I would have the patience to sit there and let my kids do it. Major OCD.

I love it. Our date nights don't even start until 8 p.m., because that's when Douglas gets home from work. But, hey, I'm good with that. We go to our favorite restaraunt and, by the end, we have it all to ourselves. We haven't had a chance to try the Miachel's thing. I wonder if I could get Douglas to do that. I'm impressed that Cody not only went in but that he also helped choose out some crafts. Good for him!

I have to give props to Cody for being willing to go to Micheals! Dave does it every once in a while but I usually have to trick him into going. Anyway, I think the car part sounds romantic:) Totally reminds me of college.

Sounds familiar. But also sounds just perfect!

Love the house. Love those cute girls even more!

HAHAHAHA that has to be the funniest date night story I've ever heard. Sounds actually like something that Mike and I would do. We NEVER get out, so sad. At least you got that :)

Last time this happened to Dan and me we ended up at Barnes and Noble, in one of the aisles, looking at books together. It was so fun! Spontaneous date nights are awesome . . . especially if they happen to favor your pocket book. :D

Yes, we always have this vision of "date night" but in reality, it is just what your talking about! So much for "Bachelor" style dates, they just don't happen.
