Busy, Busy, Busy

So far, December has been really busy for us. We just hosted the Primary Teacher Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday night, where my counselors and I prepared dinner for all of our teacher's and their families. We had a good turn out and all the food was really yummy. Thanks for everyone who helped and for everyone who came.

Tomorrow, we have the ward Christmas party and the primary is putting on a nativity for the ward. Diane, from the ward, is a fabulous seamstress, and she actually has costumes for all the kids in the primary for the nativity- I hear she even has a camel costume. This, I am excited to see and I will definitely be taking pictures. I am also helping prepare some of the dessert, so tomorrow will be a day of baking, again!

For some reason, I have been really slow getting into the holiday season this year. I feel like it is all going too fast, like we should still be preparing for Halloween. I am behind on everything- no Christmas tree, Christmas decoration partially up, haven't even started Christmas cards, no yummy Christmas treats, nada.
But I am starting to feel the changing of the tide; I feel my creative energy coming (creative energy is my life force, must have it to do anything productive). It started off with super Saturday last week. Nothing like making crafts and gabbing with girls to get my spirits soaring. I made these Christmas magnets for my magnet board.
Now, I am just waiting for Christmas cards to arrive, so I can stick 'em up.

I received my first Christmas gift a little early. . .

and I sewed with it tonight and it is DE-lightful! It is so empowering to have a sewing machine that works well. Creative ideas are just flowing through me as I harness the power of a Bernina! I am excited, if you couldn't tell.
Thanks, Mom and Dad!

The final touch to bringing the Christmas season into full swing is the blanket of snow that we are currently surrounded with. I liked how Sarah put it: "I love how snow blankets the earth and insulates it. It's as if Mother Nature were telling everyone to "shut-up" and listen."

So I will be listening, creating, baking, sewing, decorating, directing, and, as always, snugglin' up warm with Cody and my girls.

Better late than never!

Sounds like you're plate is extremely full-good thing you're uber capable! Enjoy all the goodness around you and send some snow our way!

Okay, as soon as I can get myself going, you'll have a Christmas card from us to hang up. My problem is that I want to do all these great creative things, but I either have no time, or I'm not using my time wisely enough to get them all done.

I love the magnets, by the way.

Love the magnets, love the sewing machine, love YOU!

We just need to get our letter done, and then you can get use of one of those magnets ;)

Congrats on the Bernina. About six years ago, I had this crappy (sorry about the vulgarity but I cannot describe it without being vulgar) - anyway had this crappy Brother sewing machine and I was making quilts. The tension on the dang thing was going out every couple of hours (and I had to take it in to get fixed). After spending A LOT MORE for repairs than I paid for the dang thing, I put in the driveway, started the car and threatened to run over it. Spouse came home in the midst of it all and told me to stop - he and my mom had been planning and found the Bernina dealer will give us $200 for trading it in!?

I love to destroy things that give me stress.

So I had an early Bernina Christmas one year too! I have to confess, however, that it has a tendency to make feel inadequate.

I, too, have a crappy brother (he, he, that's funny) where the tension was all sorts of messed up- I have spent hours trying to get it to work, I was sooooo frustrated, and I was about to take it in to get repaired when my mom said it wasn't worth it, just get a new one.

And I said, "okay!"

I'm behind right along with you! Love the new look!

Brooke, I feel like your life and mine are mirror images of each other now. Except for the baking, of course, and the sewing, and the creativity. I lack all of that. Ha, so really it's just the fact that we're having a Primary Board Member party at my house on the 15th and we just had our ward party with the nativity program. My counselors and I are also making dinner for everyone that's coming to the party on the 15th...only I'm not so sure my contribution will be very yummy since I never cook. :) I hope they don't mind if I experiment on them. :) Cute magnets.

I'm with you on all the being not prepared for Christmas. At least yesterday I went out and bought ingredients for some yummy treats. Hey, what is Austenland about (I'm assuming something related to Jane Austen)? Is it good?

Congratulations on your new addition. She is beautiful and I'm sure will bring you much joy and happiness.

Did Claire have another "go" at her bangs with the scissors? Or is that from her first self-haircut?

Brooklet said...

nope, its damage from the first hair cut- just trying to grow it out and cut it even with the rest of her bangs.

Brooke, you're amazing!

I finally got around to taking all the photos off for my own files. You are a wonderful photographer...which, alone, makes you worth Having for a daughter in law!
PS: Were those the scissors I gave Claire? If so, I'm sorry...
But she is really cute either way!

Amy, about Austenland- its okay, I don't think I liked it enough to recommend, but if you are an avid Austen fan you might find it tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.
